Girls Weekend...Part 2

Besides having the amazing experience of being on the Today Show, we spent a lot of time walking through the streets of New York City, we took a carriage ride through Central Park, we went out to dinner together, and we even drove over to Hobokan, NJ to visit Carlos Bakery (home of the Cake Boss).  By the time we finally made it to the beach house in Stone Harbor, we were wiped out.  We did a Sonic run for some Diet Cherry Limeades which fueled us for a few rounds of Bananagrams, and then headed to bed.

We are Long girls, and that means only one thing on Saturday Mornings...wherever we go, we go yard saling.  It doesn't matter what town we are in, what state we are in, or why we are there, we always get a paper and make yard saling a priority.  We somewhat have an obsession with that!  We saw that there were 3-4 yard sales listed and decided to try to get out of the house by 8am (which is actually a lot later than we usually go).  We had even scoped the area out the night before to see if we saw any other yard sale signs so we could prepare, but were disappointed to find that it was going to be a short yard sale day.  Well, let's just say that the Good Lord shined his love down on us, because 4 yard sales miraculously turned into about 175!  We are not kidding.  The entire town of Avalon was holding yard sales.  We were stoked!

We had cleaned out Heather's entire car before leaving.  The only thing in there were four yard sale fanatics.  Before we really hit the first sale, we stumbled on some "freebies."  The first pile had 3 beach chairs and several beach umbrellas.  Mom and I couldn't pass that up.  We stood there on the side of the street debating whether we should take them all and finally my sisters yelled at us to make a decision and get in the car already.  We took them ALL!  After that major score, we headed to our first yard sale stop, where we purchased multiple items, including a purchase of a huge suitcase by me, and I knew we were in trouble.  A few items turned into a few more, and a few more, and a few more.  Within a couple of hours, we couldn't see out the back window.

After about 3 hours, we noticed an emergency sign flashing on the side of the road.  The sign read "Urgent if flashing."  It then had a community and emergency info radio station to listen to.  Well, the sign was flashing, and seeing that it was a beautiful, sunny, 75 degree day, with no threat of a storm, we wondered what the emergency was.  We turned on the radio and this is what we heard, "Due to the island wide yard sales, vehicles may act in normally unpredictable manners.  People may drive and act in abnormal and irrational ways, stopping quickly and pulling over on the side of the road.  Please be extremely patient."  Seriously, this was a legit message over the emergency broadcasting AM radio.  The emergency was crazy people looking for yard sales!

We laughed so hard that my sister stated multiple times she was going to seriously pee her pants.  That would have been a much bigger emergency.  My sister and my mom had decided to purchase an exersaucer for a great price that they had already determined they would consign.  They had let the family know we would be back sometime after 12pm to pick it up.  There was just one problem...they didn't write down the address AND we were gone for like 6 hours.  We started driving up and down every street in search for the $5 item.  I finally saw the street, hollered out, and we pulled up in front.  It was hilarious watching Heather trying to stuff the saucer into the trunk (that was already overflowing), as Kristen yelled out the window, "Please don't judge us!"  While that family did not judge us, I am pretty sure the family at the very last house we stopped at did, as we piled our last purchases into the car, including a brand new beach buggy, which we piled on top of my frail little mother.  It was again...hilarious.

All in all, it was probably one of the most amazing yard saling days of our life.  We walked away with a ton of items including a brand new Under Armor Hoodie with the tags still on it ($5), a beach buggy ($15), a practically new car seat ($4), a suitcase set ($10), and about 75 other items...that is no exaggeration.  We finished the day laying out on the beach, going for an almost 8 mile run, splitting the most amazing pizza, and just spending time together.  As my sister prayed for dinner tonight she said, "Thank you Lord for the most amazing weekend."  I couldn't agree more.
